Labradorite has fascinated people for thousands of years. It was first discovered in Labrador, Canada, a region famous for being one of the best Northern Lights gazing spots. When faced with the incredible play of light of the stones, locals who discovered it believed the stone had the magical power of trapping the northern lights within itself.

It has its own special shine.

The incredible play of lights and colours of labradorite its called labradorescence. Unlike other optical phenomena in other stones, in labradorescence the light extends beneath the stone surface. It really looks like light is trapped and shines from inside the crystal, no wonder people thought labradorite had the northern lights within!

About the design
